Treadmill Couch to 5K: a 9-week beginner running plan

Couch to 5K takes you from not running at all to running continuously, three sessions a week for nine weeks. Each week the runs get a little longer and the walks a little shorter. Doing it on a treadmill makes pacing simple: set a speed you are comfortable with and let the app tell you when to run and when to walk.

Couch to 5K questions

Can you do Couch to 5K on a treadmill?

Yes. The treadmill is one of the easiest places to do it: the surface is even, you control the speed, and the weather never gets in the way. Treadmill Workouts announces each walk and run so you never have to watch the clock.

How long does treadmill Couch to 5K take?

Nine weeks with three sessions a week, 27 sessions in total. Each session lasts between 22 and 37 minutes.

Will I be able to run 5K after nine weeks?

You will be able to run continuously for 20 minutes, which takes many beginners close to 5K. To go further, follow it with 5K Endurance, which builds to a 30-minute run.

Should I use an incline for Couch to 5K?

It is optional. Some runners use a 1% incline to mimic outdoor running, but a flat treadmill is completely fine for this plan.
